Stereotypes in Education
One of the biggest issues that this society faces is the misjudgment of people. It’s not that people intentionally do this; it’s in human nature to put norms on one. Social norms are a set of ‘rules’ or socially culturally shared beliefs of how an individual ought to behave. In recent events some have categorized a certain race with being ‘criminals’, ‘thieves’ and so on. Not so much the ethnic group that this race is part of but just the race, the people that risk their life to build a better one. They drop everything they’ve ever known for a foreign land. Only to arrive to a country in which they are harassed because of the way they dress, talk, or just because their accent may sound a bit different. In this picture you have two sides, one in which a young lady is provided with textbooks and is doing her homework, on the other side a young boy is provided with nothing. Is it because of the way he’s dressed? Where he comes from? This typically happens to many students, they are just given up on. But he is the change to this- he looks over and chooses his own destiny.
